Butterfly Valley
Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi) is a steep-sided canyon on the Turquoise Coast near Faralya, Fethiye, where a sand-and-pebble beach spills into the Mediterranean between sheer limestone walls rising some 350–400 metres. There is no road in: the only practical way to reach the shore is a short boat crossing from Ölüdeniz's Belcekız beach, which makes arriving by sea part of the drama. The valley takes its name from the butterflies and day-flying moths that live here, most famously the orange-and-black Jersey tiger. A protected first-category nature reserve since 1995, it keeps a deliberately wild, low-key feel, with simple food, basic facilities and a waterfall trail winding inland from the beach. It is best enjoyed as a half-day escape from Ölüdeniz or Fethiye, timed for the June-to-September butterfly season and combined with a clifftop view from Faralya above.
