Mt Korab
At 2,764 metres, Mount Korab is the highest peak in both Albania and North Macedonia — one of only two summits in Europe (alongside Mont Blanc) that serves as a national high point for two countries. Perched on the shared border in the Dibër region, this rugged massif of shale and limestone rises from dense forests of Bosnian pine and beech through alpine meadows to a summit where Mediterranean and continental climate systems collide, producing some of the wildest and most dramatically varied terrain in the Balkans. For decades, the border kept Korab locked away. Today, hikers can climb freely from either country, and the summit rewards them with sweeping views over glacial lakes, vertical rock walls, sharp ridgelines, and deep valleys on both sides of one of Europe's least commercialized mountain frontiers.
