Kalikka Beach
Kalikka Beach (Finnish: Kalikan uimaranta) is a public swimming-lake beach on the southern shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi, at Kalikantie 42 in Yläne. It is a classic Finnish lakeside bathing spot: a gentle, shallow sandy beach, a wood-fired-feel beach sauna right on the water, changing rooms, showers and a grill shelter, all set on a wide grassy shore shared by two neighbouring municipalities. Locals rate it a favourite, and it is exactly the kind of place where you can spend an entire summer day swimming, saunaging and grilling. What makes Kalikka special is how complete the experience is for a free public beach: you can swim in clear Pyhäjärvi water, alternate with hot sauna and a plunge back into the lake, cook over the grill by the shore, toss a volleyball on the sand court or try the mini-golf lawn, and even take a cold-duck winter swim from October to May. The grounds are wheelchair accessible, and the whole area is reached by an easy drive from Yläne centre with roadside signs.
