Zámek Mnichovo Hradiště
Mnichovo Hradiště Chateau is a magnificent Baroque residence in the heart of the Bohemian Paradise, best known as the ancestral seat of the Wallenstein dynasty for over three centuries. Built originally as a Renaissance chateau in 1606, it was transformed into one of Bohemia's finest Baroque complexes at the turn of the 18th century. Today visitors can explore opulent period interiors, a rare neo-Classical theatre, a library once tended by Giacomo Casanova, and the tomb of the enigmatic Thirty Years' War general Albrecht von Wallenstein. The chateau sits among gardens and a sprawling estate that once served as the economic nerve center of the Wallenstein domain. Its collections span Meissen and Japanese porcelain, Delftware, a painting gallery of 112 works, and theatrical costumes and props preserved from the 1833 Assembly of Three Monarchs — a meeting of Europe's emperors that shaped the post-Napoleonic order. The surrounding park, with its French garden and English landscape, leads to a Baroque sala terrena that is freely open to the public.
