Yeongmojeon
Yeongmojeon (永慕殿), meaning "Hall of Everlasting Admiration," is a small Joseon-era shrine in Yeongwol that enshrines the royal portrait of King Danjong, the tragic sixth king of the dynasty who was deposed and died in exile here at only seventeen years old. Built in 1517 through donations from local residents who refused to forget their fallen king, it has served as a site of private veneration for over five centuries. The shrine is a single wooden hall with a classic hip-and-gable roof, its front open to the sky while the king's portrait rests in the central bay behind sliding lattice doors. Originally the site of Yeongwol's town-god shrine, the building was renamed and rededicated to Danjong in 1927. It is designated as Gangwon Province Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 56.
