Haldenwanger Kopf
The Haldenwanger Kopf is a 2,002-metre summit that straddles the frontier between Bavaria and Vorarlberg, the highest point you can stand on with one foot in Germany and one in Austria without ever feeling like you are climbing anything technical. Despite that tidy border claim, it is a quiet walk-up rather than a famous peak, and that is part of its charm: a grassy, scree-ribbed dome above Warth and the upper Stillach valley that rewards a steady two-and-a-half-hour climb with one of the most complete 360-degree panoramas in the northern Alps. For a day out from the Lech valley, the Kleinwalsertal or Oberstdorf, the Haldenwanger Kopf sits in a perfect position—close enough to reach on foot, high enough to look across into the Verwall, Lechtaler and Silvretta ranges beyond, and on a marked T1 trail that suits confident walkers rather than mountaineers.
