Former Residence of Qian Tongyi
The Former Residence of Qian Tongyi (钱同义宅) is a traditional Jiangnan courtyard house tucked along Wuxi's storied Nanchang Street, facing the ancient Grand Canal. Designated a Wuxi Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Unit in 2003, this three-bay, four-courtyard residence preserves the refined woodwork and spatial logic of a well-to-do canal-side household, set within a UNESCO-listed historic district now animated by cafés, galleries, and evening lantern light. The house is a quiet architectural gem along a street that draws crowds for its food, shops, and canal views—rewarding visitors who look past the storefronts to notice the original masonry, carved eaves, and gourd-shaped columns that speak to Wuxi's merchant heritage.
