Holmträsket
Holmträsket is a quiet, forest-ringed lake near the small village of Åmsele in Vindeln Municipality, deep in the woodland and wetland country of Västerbotten in northern Sweden. It is not a place built for sightseers: its appeal lies in clean, open water, a long natural shoreline and a well-regarded fishery that draws anglers looking for pike, perch and cold-water whitefish. At roughly 4.4 square kilometres, it is a modest but proper lake, sitting about 215 metres above sea level with some 18 kilometres of shoreline. The surrounding catchment is overwhelmingly boreal forest and peat bog, and the water runs out through the river Åman toward the great Umeälven valley. For travellers who want a glimpse of calm, unpolluted northern-Swedish lake country without a crowd, Holmträsket delivers exactly that.
