Zennenji
Zennenji (善念寺) is a Jodo Shinshu temple of the Otani-ha lineage, tucked into the quiet coastal town of Asahi in Toyama Prefecture. Like the many parish temples dotting this small fishing-and-farming community, it serves as a living center of Shin Buddhist devotion rather than a sightseeing destination — a place where the rhythm of daily temple life still holds. Set against the backdrop of Mount Asahi and the jade-green Sea of Japan, Asahi Town is a region known for its pebble-strewn Jade Coast, a rare fermented tea called Batabata-cha, and warm cod soup (tara-jiru) that locals consider their soul food. Zennenji sits within easy reach of Tomari Station on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway, making it a natural stopping point for travelers exploring this quieter corner of the Hokuriku coast.
