Stiftskirche St. Cyriakus

The Collegiate Church of St. Cyriakus (Stiftskirche St. Cyriakus) in Geseke, North Rhine-Westphalia, is a monument spanning nearly a thousand years of Westphalian history. Founded around 946 as the church of a noblewomen's convent established by the Saxon Haholde counts under royal Ottonian patronage, it is today a living parish church, pilgrimage site, and one of the region's most compelling examples of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. Set in a park-like garden in the heart of Geseke's old town, the church's squat west tower and massive eastern flank towers create a striking silhouette. Inside, visitors encounter a two-bay Gothic hall nave resting on cruciform pillars, a magnificent Baroque high altar of black marble and alabaster, the gilded shrine of the patron saint, and the venerated Maria Schuss Madonna that has drawn pilgrims for centuries.
