Ozero Mergen'
Lake Mergen is the largest lake in Ishim District of Tyumen Oblast, a near-perfect oval of open water stretching 11 kilometres through the West Siberian forest-steppe some 19 kilometres southwest of the city of Ishim. Its reed-choked shores, birch-fringed banks and long human history make it one of the most archaeologically significant landscapes in western Siberia. What sets Mergen apart from other lakes in the region is a remarkable concentration of Stone Age sites — including a circular ritual structure sometimes compared to Stonehenge — that has drawn Russian and German researchers into the area for two decades.
