Goshin-ji
Goshin-ji (悟真寺) is a Jodo Pure Land temple in the Sekiyacho quarter of Toyohashi, Aichi, founded in 1366 and counted among the great monasteries of old Mikawa Province. Far more than a quiet neighbourhood hall, its history is braided through the Tokugawa rise, Korean diplomatic missions and an emperor's overnight stay, and its grounds carry the hollyhock crest (aoi) that the shoguns reserved to themselves. Visitors come to pay respects to the Amitabha triad, to collect a gold-lettered goshuin stamp, and to read the temple's extraordinary past, now quietly displayed across the rebuilt main hall, the newly renewed gate and the markers of the Hōnen Mikawa pilgrimage. Admission is open to worshippers, parking is provided, and a small cluster of sister Jodo temples lies within a short walk.
