Bowdon Historical Society
The Bowdon Area Historical Society Museum in the tiny west Georgia town of Bowdon packs an extraordinary amount of local history into a cluster of preserved buildings behind Bowdon High School. Housed in part within a rare 1850s dogtrot house — one of the oldest structures in town — the museum chronicles everything from Bowdon's frontier founding and its role as Georgia's first coeducational college town to its quirky railroad, pioneering medical families, and contributions to the Apollo space program. The museum opened its doors to the public in 2017 after decades of collecting, and a major expansion announced in 2026 will add dedicated galleries for Native American heritage, Black history, military exhibits, and Bowdon's schools. Admission is free; the Society relies on donations and volunteer passion.
