Tokiwa Bridge
Tokiwa Bridge (常盤橋) is a small city crossing on the flat at the base of Mount Hakodate, in the Kikyocho (美原町) quarter of Hakodate's historic harbour ward. It is not a sightseeing landmark but a piece of old street infrastructure — and Google Maps now lists it as permanently closed, so the structure that once carried traffic over this long-quiet watercourse is no longer in service. Treat it as a footnote to the neighbourhood rather than a destination in its own right. Its interest lies in its name and its setting. The bridge sits where the waterfront meets the lanes that climb the lower slopes of Mount Hakodate, the same area that gives the district its 'Tokiwa' character through the nearby Tokiwa-zaka (Tokiwa Slope). The bridge itself offers little to see, but it marks a point in one of Hakodate's most atmospheric old-port corners, where a short stroll can connect it to the bay and the foot of the mountain.
