Slättagärde naturreservat
Slättagärde is a compact nature reserve in Varberg Municipality, Halland, protecting a forested hill whose canopy is dominated by 100- to 200-year-old oaks. This veteran deciduous woodland—called ädellövskog in Swedish—serves as a refuge for rare lichens, mosses, and fungi that need old, undisturbed trees to survive. At just 26.4 hectares, the reserve is small enough to walk in under an hour, yet it sits directly beside Åkulla bokskogar, one of Sweden's finest beech forest areas, making it a natural extension for anyone exploring the Halland high-forest landscape. Protected since 2002 and managed by the County Administrative Board of Halland, it balances quiet recreation with the active safeguarding of red-listed species.
