Lake Lama
Lake Lama (Russian: Лама) is the deep, mirror-still fjord lake that many people call the "Pearl of the Putorana Plateau" — a UNESCO World Heritage wilderness on the Arctic fringe of Krasnoyarsk Krai. Strung out for some 80 kilometres between sheer basalt walls, it is the closest large lake of the plateau to the industrial city of Norilsk and, for that reason, the classic gateway into one of Russia's most remote and pristine landscapes. There are no roads or permanent villages here. You reach Lama by air to Norilsk and then by boat or helicopter, and once you arrive the draws are glacially clear cold water, thundering mountain waterfalls, a fierce reputation as a sacred "place of power," and fishing for char and grayling in a lake that stays locked in ice for eight months of the year.
