Cerro Cusal
Cerro Cusal is a small, little-visited mountain peak in the Departamento de La Paz in northern Bolivia, standing at roughly 415 metres (about 1,362 feet). Far from the snowcapped giants of the Altiplano, it belongs to the green, rain-soaked foothills where the Andes dissolve into the Amazon basin, sitting close to the isolated village of Teoponte and the forested valleys of the Río Mapiri. There is no tourist infrastructure here and no marked viewpoint or summit register: Cerro Cusal is a quiet natural landmark rather than a destination in its own right. It earns its place on any map of the region as the lowest named peak of the Sierras Subandinas Norte, a rugged belt of Andean foothills prized by intrepid travellers for remoteness, jungle-clad ridges and a genuine sense of standing at the frontier between two worlds.
