Tarros Ladder
Tarros Ladder is a storied mountain pass on the Narrow Neck Plateau in Australia's Blue Mountains, where a short but thrilling iron-spike descent drops walkers through a steep rock chimney into the Megalong Valley below. Tucked at the very end of a sweeping sandstone ridge between the Jamison and Megalong valleys, this is one of the most beloved and frequently used of the area's historic passes — a route that has carried Aboriginal traders, shale prospectors, and generations of intrepid bushwalkers down from the heights of Clear Hill. Today, reaching Tarros Ladder means walking out along Glenraphael Drive to the tip of Narrow Neck, then threading a track past dramatic cliff-edge views before making the signature 10-metre spike-assisted descent. The pass forms the lower section of Duncans Pass and serves as the main link between the plateau and the Wild Dog Mountains to the south, making it a key waypoint on longer routes through Kanangra-Boyd Wilderness.
