Mys Fligeli
Cape Fligely (Russian: Mys Fligeli) is the northernmost point of Russia, of Europe, and of the entire Eurasian landmass. Jutting out on the northern shore of Rudolf Island in the Franz Josef Land archipelago, it sits barely more than 900 kilometres from the North Pole and marks the very edge of the continent as a traveler can reach it. This is not a place you stumble upon. Reaching it means sailing deep into the Russian High Arctic aboard an expedition ship, threading between glaciers and drifting pack ice that have defeated explorers for a century and a half. For those who do arrive, the reward is a raw, ice-bound coastline soaked in the drama of the race to the Pole—where the greats of Arctic history aimed their last desperate treks northward.
