Sam Sian Tong Shrine
Sam Sian Tong Shrine, whose name translates as "the abode of the three virtuous immortals," is a beloved Chinese spirit hall in Chalong, Phuket. Founded in 1997 as a Naga serpent veneration hall and expanded in 2015, it has grown into a bustling community temple renowned for its principal deity who repels evil — a figure locals turn to for protection in legal disputes, trade, and fortune. During the Phuket Vegetarian Festival each autumn, the shrine transforms into a lively hub of ritual, free vegetarian kitchens, and street processions, offering visitors a genuine glimpse of grassroots Chinese-Thai devotional life away from the island's better-known mega-temples.
