Los Albaricoques
Los Albaricoques is a tiny whitewashed village in the dry heart of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, about 46 km east of Almería city — and one of the most improbable film pilgrimages in Europe. This is the real Agua Caliente, the dusty border town Sergio Leone created for For a Few Dollars More, where Clint Eastwood's bounty hunter rode in and Lee Van Cleef took his revenge on El Indio. A hamlet of the municipality of Níjar with only a few hundred year-round residents, Los Albaricoques doubles as a working Andalusian white village and an open-air tribute to the spaghetti western: its streets carry the names of Leone, Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Ennio Morricone, and the stone-paved threshing circle where the most famous duel in the genre was filmed still sits at the edge of town. For most visitors it's a slow, atmospheric stop of an hour or two that slots neatly into a day of desert cortijos and hidden coves elsewhere in the natural park.
