AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Bicycle Path Alameda dos Oceanos is a dedicated cycling corridor running the full length of Lisbon's grandest modern boulevard, the Alameda dos Oceanos, in the Parque das Nações district. Smooth, well-segregated and open around the clock, it lets riders glide between some of the city's most striking contemporary architecture — from the glass-clad Pavilhão do Conhecimento past the landmark Galp Tower and toward the Tagus riverfront.↗↗
With a 4.8-star rating from visitors who praise its quality and scenic views, this path has become a model for how a wide urban avenue can be reclaimed for people on two wheels and foot.↗↗
A Boulevard Built for Riding
The Alameda dos Oceanos is the spine of Parque das Nações, the gleaming district that hosted Expo 98. At roughly five kilometres long, this broad tree-lined avenue runs from the northern edge of the parish toward the river, flanked on both sides by apartment blocks, offices, public gardens and cultural venues. For years the cycling provision here was patchwork: short stretches appeared and vanished at roundabouts, and riders shared cobbled surfaces better suited to strolling than pedalling.
