AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Zaryadye Park sits on a riverside slope just east of Red Square, one of Moscow's boldest contemporary public spaces. Its signature floating bridge cantilevers 70 meters over the Moskva River with no supports beneath, offering what many consider the best free view of the Kremlin in the entire city.↗↗
Opened in 2017 and designed by the American firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro (the architects behind New York's High Line), the park replaces the site where the Soviet-era Rossiya Hotel once stood. It layers four miniature Russian climate zones—tundra, steppe, forest, and wetland—across the hillside, with a glass-roofed philharmonic hall, an Arctic ice cave, a media center, and an underground archaeological museum built around 16th-century foundations. Entry to the grounds and bridge is free and open around the clock, making it an effortless complement to any day in the historic center.↗↗
