AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Tucked into the misty volcanic highlands above Beitou at roughly 670 metres, the Yangming Creek Riverside Trail is a 330-metre path that follows a tributary of Yangming Creek through the heart of Taipei's most celebrated flower-growing district. Built with natural stone masonry rather than concrete, the trail weaves between the stream and a canopy of cherry trees, sweet gums, and native broadleaf species, giving visitors an intimate, meandering walk with the sound of clear water at their shoulder.↗↗
The trail links three signature experiences of the Zhuzihu area: the sulfurous plumes of Xiaoyoukeng (Little Oil Pit) fumarole, the looping Top Lake creek path, and the pedestrian lane circling Seven-Star Mountain. Walkers can stitch these into a gentle half-day circuit or simply enjoy the short, flat stretch on its own—children and seniors alike find it comfortable.↗↗
A Stream Built by Nature, Guided by Craft
Completed by the Taipei City Government's Geotechnical Engineering Office, the trail reflects a deliberate philosophy of working with the creek's existing topography rather than overwriting it. The banks are shaped with the flower-mountain stone-masonry technique—irregular boulders of varying sizes fitted together without mortar to recreate the look and function of a wild stream. Ecological corridors and small fish ladders let aquatic life move between banks, while the riparian zone has been replanted with native species including the rare Formosan scholar tree and large-leaf phoebe, alongside cherry blossoms and maples that put on a seasonal show.
