AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Shouming Temple (壽明宮) is a registered Daoist temple in Chunshe Village, Nantun District, Taichung. Its principal deity is the Zhengyi Celestial Master Zhang (正一張府天師), making it a less common focus than the many Mazu, Guanyin, wangye, and Tudigong temples found across Taiwan.↗↗↗
The temple presents itself with northern-style palace architecture and a distinctive incense route: Heavenly God censer, Celestial Master censer, Inner Camp censer, Outer Camp censer, and Dipper censer.↗
Founded in 1957 on Chaoyang Street in Taichung’s West District, the temple moved in 1999 to its current Zhongyong Road location in Chunshe Village. That setting is part of the visit: Chunshe has long been noted for its dense collection of temples, so Shouming Temple feels like one thread in a larger local religious fabric.↗↗
Why this temple stands out
Most Taichung neighbourhood temples centre on Mazu, Guanyin, Tudigong, or wangye deities. Shouming Temple is different because its main deity is the Zhengyi Celestial Master Zhang, a Daoist figure associated with the Zhengyi lineage. For a traveler already familiar with Taiwanese temple culture, that gives the site a more specialized flavor, while for a first-time visitor it offers a chance to see how Daoist temple worship can extend beyond the better-known pantheon.
