AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Housed inside Memorial Hall — a National Historic Landmark built for the 1876 Centennial Exhibition — the Please Touch Museum is Philadelphia's dedicated children's museum, where hands-on play is the curriculum across 157,000 square feet and two full floors.↗↗
Founded in 1976 and celebrating its 50th anniversary, the museum has welcomed more than two million visitors and earned a reputation as one of the nation's premier children's museums. It serves children primarily ages 1 to 7, with four exhibit areas designed specifically for toddlers three and under, plus galleries that keep older siblings and grown-ups genuinely entertained.↗↗
What Makes It Special
The Please Touch Museum is not a place where children are told to look but not touch — quite the opposite. Every gallery invites climbing, pouring, building, shopping, cooking, and exploring at full volume. The setting amplifies the experience: the museum occupies the grand Beaux-Arts shell of Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park, where the original Corinthian columns and soaring ceilings remind visitors that this building once hosted America's first world's fair.
