AT A GLANCE
Why go?
On a sprawling countryside estate called Wessex Hundred just outside Colonial Williamsburg, the Williamsburg Winery has been a pioneer of Virginia wine since 1985. What began as a single dream of growing fine grapes in the Tidewater has grown into one of the state's most storied winemaking names, set among hundreds of acres of woods, fields, gardens and working vineyards.↗↗
It is far more than a tasting room. A single visit can weave together a guided cellar tour, a long lunch at a vineyard-side tavern, a glass of reserve wine, a stroll beneath century-old trees, and even an overnight stay at an inn that feels transplanted from a European countryside. For travelers pairing the historic recreation of Colonial Williamsburg with something livelier, this farm is the natural escape.↗↗
