We have just come back from a stay with Maistra Select Island Istra. Wow!! What a great holiday. We flew to Pula airport from Stansted which took 1.45hrs. From Pula, the taxi was 35 mins. This takes you to Rovinij town where you hop on a boat to the island. Our room was wonderful and the service great. There we daily activities for kids of all ages, as well as adults. The hotel has 5 pools, all linked. And all through the island there are beaches where you can do water sports, jumping, inflateables and swimming. Bring water shoes and lots of suncream and it’s hot! There’s no food shop on the island so you can get the boat over every hour to stock up and the ride is lovely. There is a shop on the island to buy clothes, floaties and swimming bits.

I don't often leave reviews, but I felt compelled to pass on our gratitude to the hotel. We have been to Hotel Istra 7 times now - the reason we return is there's nowhere in the world like it. We've travelled a lot but Hotel Istra feels like a home from home. Recently the hotel has been thoughtfully refurbished, with consideration given to impactful, and helpful improvements - not just superficial change. The rooms have been redecorated, but touches like complimentary nappies in baby changing areas, security gates on pool areas, entertainment like pool basketball, refurbished children's play area and pools, and wristband room keys all made the stay smoother and more enjoyable. The location is second to none, and we were apprehensive to go in August in case it was really busy - but it was so well managed and now our favourite time of year to visit. There's so much to do, from walking around the adjoining wooded island, snorkelling, paddleboarding, inflatable watersports, rock pooling, spa. We're already planning our next visit as there was more things we'd love to try (even after 7 years!). Each experience changes and offers something new as our son gets grows up. Thank you Maistra for our best trip yet. Our only small comment would be that we couldn’t understand why guests aren’t able to board the ferry at the first arrival point on the dock (the hotel side) to cross over to the city side. It’s quite a long walk around the harbour, particularly in the heat with a young child. It would be really useful if this could be offered as an option, especially for guests wanting to visit the supermarket and carry heavier bags back, or simply to get to the city side more easily.

We had an excellent stay here with friends who were at the same hotel last year so that in itself is positive. The island and hotel set up are great and its really nice being on an island with the adjoining smaller island to explore and both the pool areas and beach areas never felt busy. I had read mixed reviews about the food but was more than pleasantly surprised, I thought the choice and quality of food was great, multiple freshly cooked meat options and fish options, six or seven different good quality salads, pizza, pasta and so on... Yes the buffet at breakfast and dinner were busy but I have never stayed on a hotel that have this set up (which I have in a number of other countries) when it wasn't, but it was never crazily busy and all moved well. If you don't like the all inclusive buffet don't choose a hotel like this but I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner experience, especially pouring my own beer!! ..... and my children loved the ice cream stand for dessert. The ferry service to and from the mainland is really easy too and runs all day and very late so is big plus. All in all, we had a great stay and highly recommend.

Such a lovely location - very peaceful and beautiful and charming. The rooms are well equipped and have a lovely view. The food is pretty good but not as excellent as other aspects of the hotel. Service is usually very good except for the woman with short brown hair at the beach bar who was incredibly rude, rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing when customers simply placed an order or asked a question. As someone who works in hospitality, this is not how you should ever treat customers - even if you don’t like your job. This was upsetting considering the amount we have paid and how lovely all of the other staff have been. This shouldn’t deter people from coming here though as it’s wonderful aside from this.

I really liked the concept of this place: taking a shuttle boat to the island makes you feel far away from the city’s hustle and bustle. The grounds are well maintained, perfect for walks, and the seagulls add a charming atmosphere. The rooms were clean. While some furniture and walls showed signs of wear, it was nothing significant. I also enjoyed the wellness area. Having two Finnish saunas and two Turkish steam rooms provides a welcome sense of privacy and comfort.

If you want to escape the noise without feeling isolated, this is the place. The 15-minute boat ride from Rovinj sets the perfect tone. Hotel Istra masterfully balances modern comfort with the untouched nature of Red Island. No traffic, just pine trees, clear sea, and top-tier Maistra hospitality. The staff is incredibly welcoming and genuinely friendly, making you feel at home right away. It’s the perfect place to completely unwind and recharge. It’s the kind of hotel that spoils you for any future vacations. Outstanding from check-in to check-out.

Overall, a very pleasant stay. The hotel is beautiful, well-maintained, and has a truly lovely atmosphere. Everything was clean and tidy, and the ambience made the stay feel very comfortable and relaxing. The staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, which made a big difference. We did have an issue with the call center not properly recording our reservation, but the reception team handled everything exceptionally well. They went out of their way to resolve the situation smoothly and professionally — all praise to the front desk staff for their effort and attitude. Breakfast was also great and offered very good quality for the price. All in all, a very nice and comfortable experience, and we would happily return.
