We were in the main building, a lovely room and an amazing shower. The only thing that we would have liked was if the hotel was a bit more environmentally conscious about water and had some more vegetarian/vegan options for breakfast. As for the rest, it was a really pleasant stay.

No lift/ elevator! The rooms are pretty nice but dusty on the tables & side bed tables, didnt clean.. the toilet floods as well.. the instructions should have put photos so guest checking in after hours can get a better look at the streets at night because there wasnt any lights in the alleys. It was a very nice stay as its very near the city center! Highly recommend, breakfast selections were very good too

- How to get there? -
Getting to Visby Börs Hotell could hardly be easier. I arrived by ferry from Oskarshamn and, despite arriving late in the evening, reached the hotel on foot in less than fifteen minutes. Simply turn left when leaving the ferry terminal and continue straight ahead until you reach the hotel.
Since I arrived after reception hours, I received a detailed email beforehand explaining the late check-in procedure. The email contained the access code for a side entrance, and upon entering I found a cabinet containing my room key card together with my room number. I thought this was very well organised and made arriving late completely stress-free.
One thing I noticed almost immediately is that the hotel feels somewhat like a maze. This is understandable, as it consists of both an older and a newer section connected through corridors, staircases and doors. While this gives the hotel character, it can occasionally be confusing.
One point that deserves attention is a sudden difference in floor level in one of the corridors. Due to the lighting and flooring, it creates an optical illusion, making the floor appear completely level when in reality there is a drop of approximately 30 centimetres. I nearly stumbled twice, and I noticed another guest almost doing the same. Better lighting or a subtle warning strip would significantly improve safety.
- First Impression -
My first impression was very positive. The hotel immediately felt clean, modern and exceptionally well maintained. Everything looked tidy and carefully cared for, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment I entered. The indoor temperature was perhaps a little warm, but otherwise the hotel made an excellent first impression.
- Surroundings -
The location is undoubtedly one of the hotel's greatest strengths.
Less than thirty metres from the reception entrance is Visby's Tourist Information Centre. Directly opposite the hotel is a pleasant bar and restaurant, while many other cafés and restaurants can be found just a short walk away.
Immediately next to the hotel is the Gotland Museum, one of the island's most important museums and highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of Gotland.
Walking past the museum brings you directly into Visby's beautiful medieval city centre and the famous city wall. Heading in the opposite direction leads towards the newer shopping district with larger restaurants and shops.
The central bus station is also within walking distance. During the summer months (June–August) there is a direct airport bus, while buses 61 and 62 stop close to the airport throughout the rest of the year, requiring only a short walk.
Another lovely surprise was the small independent cinema on the way towards Östercentrum.|The location simply could hardly be better.
- Reception / Check-in -
Although the late check-in procedure worked flawlessly, I felt that the personal welcome the following morning could have been warmer.|When I introduced myself at reception, I expected at least a brief welcome, perhaps asking whether I had arrived safely or if everything had gone well the previous evening. Unfortunately, very little initiative came from the receptionist, and I found myself asking most of the questions.
Eventually I did receive a city map together with recommendations of places worth visiting, which I appreciated. However, I believe guests would benefit greatly if reception proactively explained breakfast times, dining options, hotel facilities and local attractions without guests having to ask.|One missed opportunity was that the hotel organised a live band during my stay. I only discovered this by coincidence, despite it turning out to be one of the highlights of my visit. Informing guests about special events during check-in would greatly improve the overall guest experience.
- Finding Room 708 -
Finding Room 708 took a little searching. It is tucked away in one of the quieter corners of the hotel and requires passing several staircases, corridors and doors before reaching it. Although the layout initially feels somewhat confusing, I eventually found the room without too much difficulty.
- The Room (708) -
Room 708 immediately felt cosy and inviting. Its unusual semi-pentagonal shape gave it plenty of character while offering lovely views over two streets of Visby.
The room was modern, clean and very well maintained. Amenities included a minibar, hairdryer and excellent blackout curtains. The bed deserves particular praise: it was neither too soft nor too firm, while the pillows and bed linen were wonderfully comfortable, resulting in excellent nights of sleep.
One small challenge was opening the windows. They are equipped with a detachable safety bar which first needs to be secured before the window can safely be opened. Without this bar, the windows open fully, creating a potential fall hazard. Once understood, the system works well, but first-time guests should exercise caution.
Unfortunately, one aspect significantly affected the overall comfort of the room. Every morning at around 7:00 a.m., large quantities of glass bottles were emptied into recycling containers or collection trucks directly beside the hotel. The crashing sound was extremely loud and abrupt, repeatedly waking me from my sleep. The first morning it startled me awake immediately. Guests who are light sleepers may wish to request a room on the opposite side of the hotel if possible. If this is a regular occurrence, informing guests beforehand would also be appreciated.
Despite this drawback, Room 708 was a lovely room. It combined modern comfort with a cosy atmosphere and, apart from the early morning noise, I was very satisfied with my stay.
- Bathroom -
The bathroom felt luxurious and modern, although perhaps slightly excessive in its use of gold-coloured finishes. Nevertheless, everything looked elegant and well maintained.
One area that could certainly be improved is the shower. Personally, I am not particularly fond of rain showers, although this is naturally a matter of preference. More importantly, the rain shower head contained noticeable limescale deposits which should receive more thorough cleaning.
There is also a handheld shower, but unfortunately its water pressure is extremely concentrated, almost feeling like being sprayed with a pressure washer. Replacing it with a more conventional shower head would significantly improve comfort.
A positive aspect is the generous supply of shampoo, conditioner and soap.|The toilet itself was excellent, although the toilet paper was rather rough and could certainly be upgraded to a softer quality.
- Breakfast -
Breakfast is served on the ground floor inside what used to be the old cinema hall, creating a surprisingly cosy and unique atmosphere. There is even a piano available for guests to play, adding a lovely personal touch.
The breakfast selection was international and included fruit, yoghurt, breads, scrambled eggs, sausages and, naturally, Swedish meatballs.|A particularly thoughtful detail was the clearly designated gluten-free section.
As my stay lasted almost six days, I did notice that the breakfast selection remained almost identical every morning. A little more variation would be appreciated for guests staying longer.|The only disappointment was once again the interaction with staff. A simple "Good morning" or welcoming smile would make breakfast feel much warmer and more hospitable.
- Check-out -
The check-out process was efficient and professional. The receptionist mainly verified that there were no outstanding charges before completing the departure.
However, after staying almost six days, I would have appreciated being asked whether I had enjoyed my stay or if everything had been satisfactory. Such a simple question often leaves guests with a much warmer final impression.
On a positive note, I was kindly allowed to remain in the breakfast lounge afterwards to finish some writing before leaving for the airport, which I greatly appreciated.
CONCLUSION
Visby Börs Hotell is a modern, comfortable hotel in one of the very best locations in Visby. The rooms are beautifully maintained, the breakfast is good, and the hotel's central location makes it an ideal base for exploring both the medieval city and the rest of Gotland.
The greatest opportunity for improvement lies in hospitality. Small gestures such as offering a warmer welcome, proactively providing practical information, informing guests about special events and showing more personal interest during check-out would noticeably enhance the guest experience.|Combined with clearer marking of the floor level difference, improvements to the shower, and reducing or communicating the early morning glass collection noise, Visby Börs Hotell could easily become an outstanding hotel.

Very clean and well renovated hotel while still honoring the history of the building. Beds were comfortable. Small but nice bathroom. Very central location within the walls of Visby. Breakfast is rather basic but good. Housekeeping could be improved, our towels were left on the floor (as per the instruction the hotel had posted) because we wanted them changed. Came back and found the room made but towels still on the floor, I am not sure anyone even had a look inside the bathroom. A bit noisy, isolation is not the best and there were drunk people screaming at night. Reception is not manned after 8 pm so there is not really much you could do about it either. I recommend the hotel and think it was a nice hotel with good value for the money.

A great hotel in a historically significant building. Everything, really everything, more than met my expectations and often exceeded them, starting with the breakfast buffet, the size and cleanliness of the room and the service. The highlight: The entire hotel is highly creative and furnished with special taste, sometimes ironically, but always full of surprises. Special tip for cineastes: Ask for room 605 ...
Update in April 2026:
Even on my second visit, I can share my unreserved enthusiasm: we stayed at Visby Börs for eleven nights and had an exceptionally wonderful stay. Above all, I’d like to highlight the service provided by the entire team this time: thoughtful, helpful recommendations on what to experience in Gotland during the off-season (between October and May), and of course the generous breakfast and the unparalleled tranquility... I’ll definitely be back!

The staff at reception and breakfast were very welcoming and helpful.
The only inconvenience we experienced was condescending and rude treatment from what I assume was the manager/owner. In relation to noise complaints regarding conversation-level noise, we were physically demonstrated to "zip it" or else we would get kicked out of the hotel. This happened after we had made it clear we understood his concerns.
The difference in his demeanor was especially noticeable once I asked him to speak in English.

We actually stayed in this hotel in June 22 not July, but are very late writing our review. |We stayed for midsummer weekend in one of the apartment suites. I must say that the first thing we thought when we stepped in the room was, "I wonder if the hotel have made a mistake". Our apartment honestly looked like it should have been 3 times what we paid for it. It's a historic building and the rooms are tastefully authentic. In short, they're just gorgeous!! My husband and I travel a lot and agree it's one of the coolest we've ever stayed! |The staff we're great, happy and friendly. Always on hand to answer any need. |Breakfast was in the main building. It had a lovely selection every day. In fact we arrived late for breakfast one morning but they were more than happy accommodate us.
