We stayed here for our 10th wedding anniversary staycation, and we were absolutely delighted to find that our room had been upgraded free of charge upon arrival. It made our stay extra special and turned it into an unforgettable day. Thank you for making our anniversary so wonderful!

We’ve stayed at The Grand several times over the years, and in the past we’ve always really enjoyed our stays. It’s generally been a great experience, with very little to complain about. Unfortunately, this time it just didn’t quite hit the mark. It feels like the hotel may be starting to show its age, and sadly, it no longer feels quite like the five star experience we’ve come to expect. The biggest let-down was the cleanliness. When we arrived, it was immediately obvious that the toilet hadn’t been properly cleaned — there was actually faeces left in the bottom of it, which certainly wasn’t the welcome we were hoping for! 😬 Opening the shower door also came with a rather unpleasant waft of stale, swampy smelling water, and there was noticeable dust underneath the coffee table. Oh and no pen and paper in the room! None of these things individually would necessarily ruin a stay, but together they just left the room feeling a little tired and average. We booked a package deal, but unfortunately, this time we didn’t really feel like we’d received the value or experience we expected for the price. On the positive side, breakfast was, as always, pretty good and definitely one of the highlights. We’ve always had a soft spot for The Grand, which is why it was disappointing to see it falling a little short this time. Hopefully this is just a one off and the hotel can get back to the standard we’ve experienced on previous stays….because we’d really love to come back and enjoy the five star experience again

I spent 2 beautiful nights celebrating my 40th & 10year Anniversary with my Partner. We had a beautiful room, (Kings Room??) From the check in process right through to checking out was seamless, efficient and staff were soo accommodating. The breakfast buffet was amazing soo much variety and catered to all needs. The location was ideal for us, we did not need to drive anywhere and loved just being in the heart of the city. I also had a Spa Treatment at East Day Spa which was convenient being at Ground floor next to Reception. Was Fabulous 👌 & exactly what I needed. Topped off with a wonderful night at Skybar sipping on cocktails 🍸 I will definitely be back and recommend Grand Hotel for luxury accomodation.

The only thing grand about this hotel is its name. This property falls well short of what I would expect from a 5-star hotel and struggles to meet even a 4-star standard. The room amenities were extremely basic. We were provided with only one shower cap and one vanity kit, with no additional toiletries. There were only two mugs in the room, no teacups and no complimentary bottled water for a 2-night stay. The breakfast buffet costs an eye-watering $45, yet even basic details seemed overlooked. There were no tongs available to remove bread from the containers, which is both unhygienic and surprising for a hotel claiming a premium standard. We witnessed grown men touching pastries with their hands and putting them back down for unsuspecting guests to eat. The lift situation was frustrating. Despite having three lifts, wait times were consistently long. The location is the hotel’s strongest feature, but paying over $300/night for a harbour view room (which isn’t really a harbour view) is not worth the lack of sleep and peace and quiet. The biggest issue was the complete lack of soundproofing. We could hear neighbouring rooms showering and flushing toilets, phone alarms going off, loud conversations, and guests moving around at all hours. Babies screaming, toddlers running up and down hallways and doors slamming throughout the day and night (thank you, room 1721, with the unruly children!) made it impossible to relax or get a decent night’s sleep. To top it off, the staff experience was disappointing. The male staff member who checked us out appeared completely uninterested and didn’t even ask how our stay was. Had he shown the slightest interest in guest feedback, I would have raised the excessive noise issues and concerns directly and perhaps this review would have been far less negative. For the price charged per night and the star rating advertised, this hotel was a significant disappointment. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it.

Our first hotel on our honeymoon, and what a perfect start to our trip! Everything was wonderful, from the complimentary room upgrade and beautiful room condition to the excellent service and attention to detail. The hotel made our first few days in New Zealand truly special. Thank you for making our honeymoon even more memorable. It was a perfect stay and the perfect beginning to our journey in New Zealand. We would absolutely love to come back! ❤️🇳🇿

We had an amazing stay at The Grand by SkyCity. From the moment we arrived, the experience was seamless and high-quality. Even though we had a very late flight arrival, checking in was a breeze. There was absolutely no wait or delay, and the staff handled everything with incredible efficiency and friendliness. In fact, every interaction we had with the team throughout our stay was wonderful—they are truly some of the friendliest hotel staff we’ve encountered. While we had a standard city view, the room itself was immaculate and felt very high-end. One of the highlights was definitely the bed—it was incredibly soft and comfortable, which was exactly what we needed to recharge. You also can’t beat being so centrally located; everything we wanted to see in Auckland was within easy reach. Despite being in a busy part of the city, the hotel felt like a calm oasis. The elevator service was also impressively fast for a large hotel, and the luxury bathroom amenities and rain-style showers added a lovely touch to the stay. Plus, being part of the SkyCity complex means world-class dining is just steps away from the lobby. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. If you want a stress-free, comfortable, and friendly experience in Auckland, this is the place to be!

In my opinion, the overall experience did not meet the standard I would expect from a 5-star hotel. On the positive side, the hotel is in a very good and convenient location. We stayed for one night, and when we first entered our room, we immediately noticed several cleanliness issues. There were hairs on the floor, in the bathtub, and one on the bed. I took photos shortly after we arrived. We reported the issue to the staff, and they moved us to another room two floors higher, which we appreciated. However, the second room did not feel particularly clean either, as we noticed dust in various areas. Another issue was the lack of soundproofing. We could hear a lot of noise from the hallway, surrounding areas, and outside the room. Overall, the hotel was not terrible, and the staff did respond to our complaint by changing our room. However, based on our experience, the cleanliness and overall standard were not what I would personally expect from a 5-star hotel. Finding hairs and visible dirt immediately upon entering a freshly prepared room was particularly disappointing.

We booked a harbour view room for one night to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was an awesome experience and we enjoyed a lot, very good customer service, nice and clean. They decorated our room very well. It was worth it to stayed at Grand Sky Hotel, even we enjoyed their food buffet at The Terrace. Highly recommended. Thank you for everything.
