This accommodation exceeded my expectations. The hotel is off/behind a main shopping street, but feels safe. You can hear live music playing, but it was pleasant for me. I felt like I was at the live music show without having to get dressed and go physically. It's not a bed and breakfast, but they generously provide a variety of snacks. Highly recommend this place

Really enjoyed the staff Pedro and Augusta, they helped make our stay in Braga so enjotable. The room was clean, breakfast was good with Augusta's homemade jam. The rooms were clean and modern. The location for visiting Braga, we walked everywhere, ate some amazing food.

Everything about our stay at Souto Guest House was perfect. The room was incredibly comfortable and clean, and the location was right in the heart of Braga. The service was great from even before we arrived - it was clear that the owners wanted us to have a great time in Braga. We had the added bonus of arriving right in the middle of a power outage in the Iberian peninsula. Despite this, we were able to check in easily and we felt very welcome. There is a very comfortable common area that magically has delicious baked good every day, and free tea and coffee. Joao made sure that we always had water and even invited us to a few beers during a midday pit stop in the common area. Overall, a comfortable guest house that oozes true hospitality from every corner, and a perfect place to call home for a few days in Braga.

The perfect place to stay for our Braga getaway. The location is great, right in the center, but a smaller street with a nice cafe and restaurant a few doors down. Our room was big and clean. There's a community room with complimentary coffee, tea, water and cake that I sat in the morning and planned my day. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly! They give great advice on what to see and places to eat. I highly recommend this place and we will happily return. 😊

An amazing host and an excellent place to stay! In the center of Braga, very close to everything, you can enjow your stay. Nice, and clean rooms! This is my favorite place and i choose it to stay when ever i am in the city. What really makes the difference is the host, who is always trying to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Highly recommended!!!

The host excellent, our stay was carnival weekend. The room on the 1st floor was spacious, comfortable & very clean. At the back of the 1st floor there is a room with tables, teas, coffee, biscuits & cakes, and plates glasses etc. So you can have breakfast, or get a delivery and then enjoy it in the back room, which overlooks the main shopping street. On our 2nd day, the host brought us some chocolates and port wine. Such a nice gesture. Parking is either street parking, which you pay for between 8am and 8pm (I think). Or you can try covered parking at around 18 euros. The bad thing about street parking is you have to go back every 2 hours and put a new ticket. Braga centre is beautiful, they always have incredible displays for flowers. Bom Jesus is a 10 min drive, highly recommended. And there are loads of places to eat, many kindly recommended by our host. Thank you Souto Guest House.

The Pateo de Janes is a guesthouse and more like a bed and breakfast without the breakfast. Pateo de Janes is located centrally in Braga, Portugal and on a side street to the main thoroughfare, which makes for a more tranquil atmosphere outside. The large building will give you a work out with the stairs, but it will help you work off the extra calories. Also it has a full kitchen for anyone to use and mini fridges in the moderately sized rooms to store food, drinks, and snacks. Diogo was the main staff member and did an awesome job familiarizing ourselves to the city, setting up transportation, and making us feel like we're locals. That's a big thank you to Diogo! Overall, Pateo de Janes is a nice place to stay in Braga.

The guesthouse was very clean and the room was big and nicely furnished. Also the host was really friendly. There were just two downsides: 1. The bed had a very weird size. It was only 1m80 long. This really disturbed me, since my toes were dangling off the bed when I slept. 2. I don't know if this occurs every week, but the Saturday we stayed in the guesthouse, the restaurant next door was having a party with a DJ playing outdoor music until 1am. Needless to say, that we didn't get much sleep that night.

Frequently asked questions about Braga

When is the best time to visit Braga?

The best time to visit Braga is from May to June and September to October, when temperatures are mild and rainfall is lower. July and August are the hottest and driest months, ideal for outdoor sightseeing but can feel intense. The rainiest stretch is typically from November to February, with cooler, wetter weather. Spring and early autumn offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring the city's sights.

Which area should I stay in in Braga?

Stay in the historic center, around Sé and the pedestrian streets near Arco da Porta Nova, for easy access to the cathedral, gardens, and restaurants. The area around Avenida Central is also central and convenient, with shops and cafes. For a quieter stay, the Bom Jesus do Monte area offers a hillside setting with the sanctuary and park nearby. Hotels like Burgus Tribute & Design and Hotel Moon & Sun are in the center, while Hotel do Parque is at Bom Jesus.

What are the must-see attractions in Braga?

Start at Bom Jesus do Monte, a hilltop sanctuary with a grand stairway and sweeping views. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro is another important pilgrimage site. Santa Maria de Braga Cathedral is the city's historic core, while Arco da Porta Nova marks the old town entrance. Relax in Santa Barbara Garden, and see the baroque Palácio do Raio.

What day trips can I take from Braga?

From Braga, full-day tours head to Guimarães, Portugal's first capital, with its medieval castle and historic center. The Peneda-Gerês National Park offers waterfalls, nature, and local tastings. Another tour goes to Santiago de Compostela in Spain and the border town of Valença do Minho, known for its fortress. These are the main day trip options.

How many days do I need in Braga?

Two days in Braga let you see the main sights: Bom Jesus do Monte, the Cathedral, Arco da Porta Nova, and Santa Barbara Garden. Add a third day if you want to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro and the Biscainhos Museum at a relaxed pace. A day trip to Guimarães or the Peneda-Gerês National Park would need an extra day on top of that.
