The best time to visit Chengdu is from March to May or September to November, when temperatures are mild and rain is less frequent than in summer. June through August is the hottest and most humid stretch, with July and August seeing the most rain days. Winter months (December to February) are cool and drier, but can be overcast. Plan 3 days in Chengdu: one for the Panda Base, one for Kuan and Zhai Alley, People's Park, and Wenshu Yuan Monastery, and one for Wu Hou Shrine and Jinli. If you want to add a day trip to Leshan or Dujiangyan, add an extra day. Two days can cover the pandas and the old town sights, but three feels more relaxed.
