I stayed at the guest house for one night and met lovely people there! The location is really close to the castle and the shared dorm, the shared bathroom and the shared living room are very clean and cozy. The bed in the shared dorm was so nice and soft that I didn’t want to get up and checkout… Especially right now in winter it’s nice to huddle under the kotatsu (a heated table with a blanket) and have a nice and long talk with the other guests. The staff is also really nice and showed us where to eat good food ^^ All in all I had a great time! I’ll definitely come back some time. 絶対戻ります！

I had a very pleasant stay at 588 Guest House in Himeji. The location is excellent—very close to Himeji Station and within walking distance of Himeji Castle, which made exploring the city extremely easy. The guest house is clean, comfortable, and well organized. The room and common areas were tidy, and everything I needed for a short stay was available. The atmosphere felt relaxed and friendly, which made the experience even better. The staff was kind and helpful, and communication was smooth. For travelers looking for an affordable and convenient place to stay in Himeji, I would definitely recommend 588 Guest House. It offers great value for the price.

My friend and I stayed for one night on shogatsu; we were actually accommodated last minute because our prior lodging ran into unexpected troubles. Despite this, the host was very gracious and helpful. The hostel itself is located conveniently on a shopping street, and it was fairly tranquil during our stay. The interior is clean, both the rooms and the bathroom/shower facilities. Stairs are a bit steep. The kotatsu was very, very comfortable when we there, and the host was super hospitable; she made us some warm adzuki soup on that cold night. There are plenty of food places nearby, and both Himeji castle and the JR station are not far away. If you check out in the morning and still want to explore Himeji, you can also store your luggage there before you leave later. I'd definitely come back!

Loved my stay there, thank you Kyoko for your hospitality !! The house is great, homely feeling, the beds are nice, everything you need freely available (water, tea, cutlery, fridge, microwave). Some rules are strict (which is understandable given the fact that Kyoko manages a lot of the tasks on her own, or with another staff) but as long as you know them in advance, it's okay :) Would definitely come back, and would definitely recommend !

The hostel is clean and centrally located, but the rules are extremely strict. After check-out, you’re not allowed to enter the property at all – not even to use the toilet or eat something. I found it quite outrageous that I wasn’t even allowed to go to the bathroom. You’re only allowed to pick up your luggage until 2 pm. Would not recommend if you value basic hospitality or flexibility.

Response from the property

I am sorry that we don’t meet your expectations.

the rule we made is caused by the guests convenience.

let me clear the point, because the guests in future will misunderstand.
 (1) you may go to the toilet even after check out
(this is misunderstanding point) (2) Luggage storage is until 14:00

we set up this rules because the new arriving guests do not have space to drop luggage.
they often come at 14:00, so we set up until 14:00. (our hostel is not big, that is one reason)
The guests who check out has enought time to go to castle and come back (and pick up at until 14:00)
If you have more schedule, you may use the lockers at station or near castle. It is not expensive.
 (3) eating after check out we prohibit the eating inside of the house after check out, becauase in the past, many guests
left rubbish and garbage on the table after we cleaned evertything. It occured frequent. I know you will not do that, but for this point, we need the rules to welcome the arriving guest. and why you wanted to eat inside of the house? you may go for the castle park and eat like picnic :) its more comfortable. And if you're in a hotel, do you go back and eat after you check out?　Maybe you won’t, right?
Anyway, These rules were carefully designed to provide a little extra convenience for departing and arriving guests alike.
If our hostel were bigger and we had more staff we could accommodate, but unfortunately we are a small guesthouse.
I hope you understand.

Matsuoka-san is the best! She goes above & beyond to look after her guests, making connections to the locals of Himeji & their businesses. I've stayed here 5 times with school groups & each time Matsuoka-san delighted the students with cooking lessons in the evening. The guest house is situated ON the main shopping mall of Miyuki-dori, within Hon-Machi, the inner city wall of Himeji Castle, so from the balcony on the 2F at the back, you can see atop the castle wall.

Only stayed a night, but enjoyed the place. The beds in the dorm are pretty spacious, though the mattresses are rather thin. The hostel's layout encourages social interaction.

The owner is a super nice lady which made my stay there really comfortable. She even bothered to show me how to use the washing machine. We had a nice chat about Detective Conan btw☺️ The location is awesome for exploring the area around Himeji castle, you can literally be there in 5 Minutes. I had an amazing stay and I will definitely come back
