We stayed one night at Kaikoura Gateway Motor Lodge. Kathy, the owner, was friendly and gave us some great recommendations, which we really appreciated. The room was quite clean, and the heater worked well, keeping us warm throughout the night. There’s also a small, well-equipped kitchen which we used it to cook some simple spaghetti. While the place is a little dated, it had everything we needed for a stopover. A couple of things to note: 1. There was a stench when we first walked in, but it went away after we aired the room for 2h by opening the windows. 2. Our room was right by the roadside, so it did get noisier at night. We even heard a helicopter, which could be disruptive for light sleepers. Overall, a good and convenient stay with all the essentials covered.

This excellent Motor lodge is adjacent to SH1, so a bit of noise from traffic. Don't let that put you off. We had room 8, with separate bedroom, large shower room and well equipped kitchen. Definitely return when we're next in Kaikoura. Only a 5 minute walk to centre.

Staff at the Kaikoura Gateway Motor Lodge were very friendly and hospitable. Location is pretty good, with a short walk to the township. I had absolutely no problems at all with my room, it was very clean and had everything I needed. Next time I am in Kaikoura I would like to stay here. Highly recommended.

Stayed here a couple of times before. Motel is sited next to the main road North/South (SH1), but I did not hear any traffic noise. It is only a few minutes walk to the shops/bars, but it does include a short steep slope down and a steep climb back to the motel. Good friendly staff, the room was very clean, comfortable and quiet.

A good room for what we needed - here for a weekend event and had everything we needed in the room - beds, kitchen (fridge, oven, stovetop, tea/coffee etc) , small TV with Sky, and full bathroom. Easy check in process and very helpful staff whenever we had to ask for help. The owners helped extend our stay when we got stuck and provided access to a large room so we could work remotely. Amazing service overall! Will be back next year

Have stayed here several times now. Perfect for a wheelchair user. Good bathroom, seat in the shower. Comfortable bed. Lovely Host (Kathy, I think). Will definitely stay again. Regards Heather

We stayed just one night here but found the hotel clean and comfortable. The standard room was very well equipped and staff helpful. The bed was really comfortable. It is 400m from the main street which was handy. Next time I may pay a little more to have a second storey room and a view of the mountains!
