Holiday Inn - the niu, LOCO MUNICH NORTH by IHG

The best time to visit Munich is from May to September, when temperatures are mild to warm, ranging from 18°C to 24°C, and daylight is long. June and September are particularly pleasant, with fewer rain days and comfortable humidity. July and August are the warmest but also the rainiest, with up to 17 rain days. October is drier but cooler, and the famous Oktoberfest runs from late September into early October. Winter months are cold and damp, with temperatures near freezing.

For first-time visitors, Altstadt-Lehel puts you near Marienplatz, Hofbräuhaus, and the Residence, with hotels like the Bayerischer Hof and Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski. Maxvorstadt suits museum lovers and students, close to the university and art districts, with options like King's Hotel First Class. Hauptbahnhof is practical for train travelers, with the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost nearby. Bogenhausen offers a quieter, residential feel, with the Hotel München Palace as a base.

Start at Marienplatz for the city's historic heart and its famous Glockenspiel. Visit the Hofbräuhaus for a taste of Munich's beer culture in its most iconic setting. The English Garden offers vast green space and the Eisbachwelle's surfing spectacle. Nymphenburg Palace showcases Bavarian royal grandeur, while BMW Welt appeals to fans of modern design and automobiles. The Munich Residence provides insight into the Wittelsbach dynasty's opulent history.

Full-day tours from Munich go to Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace, two royal residences in the Bavarian Alps. Salzburg is a rail day trip, known for its old town and Mozart heritage. Berchtesgaden and Eagle's Nest offer alpine scenery and a historic mountaintop retreat. The Oktoberfest tours cover the festival itself in Munich, not a separate destination.

Plan 3 days for Munich: day 1 for Marienplatz, Hofbräuhaus, and the Munich Residence; day 2 for Nymphenburg Palace and the English Garden, including Eisbachwelle; day 3 for Olympiapark and BMW Welt. If you want to add a day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle or Salzburg, plan an extra day.
