Visit Muscat from November to March, when days are mild (25-30°C) and nights cool, with little rain. April and October are still pleasant, though hotter. Skip May through September, when temperatures exceed 37°C and humidity climbs, making sightseeing uncomfortable.

Stay in Qurm for the beach, parks, and top hotels like the InterContinental and W Muscat. Al Bustan is quieter, with the Al Bustan Palace near the coast and palace area, good for a relaxed stay. Al Khuwair is a practical, central choice with local shops and the Radisson Blu nearby.

Start at Mutrah Souq and its corniche for the old harbor atmosphere. Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the standout landmark. Al Alam Palace, though not open to visitors, is worth seeing from outside. Qurum Natural Park offers the city's main green space, and Bait Al Zubair Museum gives a clear picture of Omani heritage.

Day trips from Muscat include Wadi Shab with its canyon pools, the Bimmah Sinkhole, the Wahiba Desert for rolling dunes, and Wadi Bani Khalid's turquoise swimming spots. The historic town of Nizwa offers a fort and souq, while Jebel Akhdar shows terraced mountain villages. The Dimaniyat Islands also run day trips for snorkeling and dolphin watching. Plan a full day for each.

Plan 3 days to see the main sights: one day for the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and Qurum Natural Park, another for the Mutrah Souq, Corniche and Mutrah Fort, and a third for Al Alam Palace, Riyam Park and the Bait Al Zubair Museum. A full-day tour to Wadi Shab or the Wahiba Desert needs one extra day. That makes 4 days total, or 5 if you also want to add a second day trip.
