The best time to visit Mykonos is from late May to June or in September, when temperatures are warm (21-26°C) and rain is rare. July and August are the hottest and driest months, with highs around 28°C and almost no rain, but they are also the peak season. October is still pleasant, though cooler and slightly wetter. Winter months from November to March are mild but rainy, with up to 10 rain days in January.
Stay in Mykonos Town for easy access to the Windmills, Little Venice, and nightlife; it suits first-timers. Ornos Beach offers a relaxed beach stay with tavernas and is a short drive from town. Agios Ioannis is quieter, with sunset views and the Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort. Psarou Beach is upscale and lively, with Mykonos Blu nearby.
Start with the Windmills of Mykonos, the iconic landmark with sweeping views over the town and sea. Stroll to the View of Alefkandra (Little Venice) for its colorful waterfront houses and sunset atmosphere. Visit the Holy Church of Panagia Paraportiani, a striking whitewashed complex of five chapels. Ornos Beach offers a classic sandy cove for a swim, while the Monastery of Tourliani in Ano Mera shows traditional Cycladic architecture. The Archaeological Museum of Mykonos holds ancient artifacts from the island and nearby Delos.
The full-day tours from Mykonos go to Delos and Rhenia. Delos is the sacred birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, with extensive ancient ruins. Rhenia offers quieter beaches and a more relaxed setting. A cruise typically combines both islands with a stop for swimming and a meal. These are the main day trips available from the island.
Plan 3 to 4 days. In 2 days you can see the Windmills, Little Venice, and the Paraportiani church, plus relax at Ornos Beach. Add a third day for the Monastery of Tourliani and the Armenistis Lighthouse, or a day trip to Delos and Rhenia, which needs an extra day. Four days lets you do both at a comfortable pace.
