Holiday Inn Nice, an IHG Hotel

The best time to visit Nice is from June to September, when days are warm and sunny, with July and August the hottest and driest months. May and October are pleasant but rainier, while November through March are cooler and wetter, though still mild. The famous Carnival in February is a lively draw, but the weather then is less reliable.

Stay in the Old Town (Vieux Nice) for narrow streets, markets, and easy access to the beach. The Promenade des Anglais waterfront suits those wanting sea views and upscale hotels like Hotel le Negresco. The City Center around Avenue Jean Médecin is central for shopping and transport, with options like Hôtel Apollinaire. Near the train station, Villa Bougainville is convenient for arrivals and day trips.

Start at Colline du Château for panoramic views over the Bay of Angels and the old town. Stroll the Promenade du Paillon, a green park linking the coast to the city center. See the ornate Russian Orthodox Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas de Nice, a striking landmark. Relax at Parc Phœnix, a large botanical garden with exotic plants and birds. For a taste of local history, visit Villa Masséna, a museum set in a Belle Époque villa.

Day trips from Nice go to the French Riviera highlights: Cannes, Antibes, and St Paul de Vence, plus medieval villages like Grasse, Gourdon, and Tourettes. The Alps are reachable by train for a scenic route, and Provence wine tours visit vineyards. These tours cover the coast and countryside, not just the city.

Plan 3 to 4 days in Nice. In 2 days you can see the Colline du Château, the Promenade du Paillon, and the Fontaine du Soleil, plus stroll the waterfront. Add a third day for Parc Phœnix, the Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas, and Villa Masséna. If you want a day trip to the French Riviera or Provence, add one more day.
