Had a wonderful stay at On The Point and would happily return. The standout feature was the staff. Every member of the team was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble, and the level of service really made the stay feel special. The setting is beautiful. The grounds are picturesque and the location right on the lake is peaceful and relaxing, making it an ideal place to unwind. The hotel itself is perhaps a little dated in places, but that's very much part of its charm. Rather than feeling tired, it has a classic country house feel, and the atmosphere, setting and service more than make up for any lack of ultra-modern finishes. The food in the restaurant was also excellent. Dinner was beautifully prepared and breakfast was equally enjoyable, with the quality matching the overall experience. A lovely hotel with genuine character, stunning surroundings and, above all, outstanding hospitality.

On the Point is situated right at the tip of a peninsula on Lake Rotorua, well away from the busy town center. The location alone makes this hotel a truly special place. Furthermore, the service was consistently friendly and attentive. We stayed in a luxurious cottage near the main house, which included a spacious bedroom, a private living area with a gas fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen. Having a washer and dryer available to us was very practical. On the veranda, we even had our own private hot tub with a wonderful view of the lake and the gardens, where horses, sheep, and donkeys grazed peacefully. Given the heavy duvet and the many cushions on the bed, a turn-down service would have been a nice touch. Unfortunately, this wasn't provided, but even so, we felt very much at home at this hotel.

The entire staff is outstanding and genuinely tries to make you happy! Swetha and Sammy hekped us book a few adventures before we even arrived, and Nadia spent hours with us helping us book every single experience! And Leica, once she saw how much we loved golden kiwis ordered them for us and for breakfast the next morning, she cut more than 8 delicious kiwis which we throughly enjoyed! Joy and Cyre were always making us tea and being very helpful! We loved the property, the donkeys, the pool room and the tennis, and the outstanding views of the island int he middle of the Rotorua lake, where princess Inimoa swam to meet her future husband. We felt like we were part of their family! We highly recommend this beautiful place!

On the point! Wow! What an absolutely beautiful place. The views are absolutely stunning, I saw the sunrise over the lake from my bedroom window! The rooms are very lovely and clean and well decorated. The breakfasts here were nothing short of perfect! Nicky was an absolute delight, she gave us lots of recommendations of places to visit and was extremely welcoming. We also had massages by Melissa while we stayed here and they were amazing, so calming! Exactly what we needed! They also have the most adorable animals here, pictured is Cupcake the sheep, she was lovely and friendly too! Thank you so much! I would love to return here!💗

Excellent location. Beautiful grounds and property. Stunning views. Spacious room. Helpful staff. Nice bonus that there are animals on the property. One major goof up — thankfully acknowledged quickly however could have been much more sensitively handled.

Absolutely grateful for what we got given at last minute. Site manager was so kind, helpful and caring. Allowed me to enter room before purchase due to experiencing something so horrific at Golden Glow motel. I really don't know how that place is allowed to still operate! Coming to Ascot was clean, smell was supper clean and everything was spick span and so welcoming. Highly recommend this place and to bring your family 🥰

Nice spot but definitely not 5 star. Way too expensive! No attention to detail, especially in the rooms. We had to wipe away condensation on the windows in the morning to see the view…definitely not a 5 star experience. I mentioned it was my husband’s birthday and I wanted to make it special, however no effort was made to acknowledge it. Sorry but we won’t be back :-(

I want to try and be fair but ultimately this hotel did not suit us. On the plus side our suite was enormous and overlooked the water. As can be seen from the promotional video it is quite old fashioned in style but we expected that. There are a few things which the hotel can't do much about - I think it is fair to say that the lake has a smell of sulphur which you can smell from time to time and there are a lot of flies at certain times of the year. This meant that we could not open the doors to the balcony in our room. In addition the hotel needs more staff - the same person was checking in new guests and serving dinner and there was a long delay to the food. We did not enjoy the dinner. Later in the evening there was nobody around to ask for any drinks. We also experienced a few communication difficulties which marred our stay and led to some awkwardness. The room rate is very high - although we did stay at an expensive time of year and the room was large. It was just too high for the full nature of the experience that we had, taken as a whole. (Please note that you need to telephone a New Zealand telephone number to gain access on arrival so you need to be able to do that on an international phone.) If we were planning the road trip again we would have reconsidered staying in Rotorua.
