Hotel Melibea

The best time to visit is May or September, with mild highs around 24-26°C and low humidity. July and August are very hot, often above 34°C, though rain is rare. March is the rainiest month, while winter months are cool and damp. For comfortable sightseeing, aim for late spring or early autumn.

Stay in the city center, especially around Plaza Mayor, for easy access to the cathedral, the Casa Lis, and the old town. The historic quarter suits first-time visitors who want to walk everywhere. The area near the Universidad and Calle Libreros is lively and close to the Mercado de la Paz. The riverside district, near the Garden of Calixto and Melibea, is quieter and more residential. Most hotels, like Ines Luna Suites or NH Collection Salamanca Palacio de Castellanos, are in the center, so you can pick any spot within a short walk of the main sights.

Start with the Salamanca Cathedral, a landmark that mixes Gothic and Baroque styles. The Garden of Calixto and Melibea offers a quiet spot with views tied to a classic Spanish tale. Casa Lis showcases Art Nouveau and Art Déco collections in a striking building. Monterrey Palace is a prime example of Plateresque architecture. For a different perspective, climb the Ieronimus Tower in the Old Cathedral for city views.

Full-day tours from Salamanca head to Ávila, with its intact medieval walls, and to Ciudad Rodrigo, a historic border town with a cathedral and castle. Both are well-known day trips from the city. If you prefer staying closer, the nearby Sierra de Francia villages are a scenic option.

Plan 2 to 3 days. In two days, you can see the Salamanca Cathedral, the Old Cathedral and Ieronimus Tower, the Garden of Calixto and Melibea, and the Casa Lis museum. Add a third day for the Monterrey Palace, Cueva de Salamanca, and a stroll through the Mercado de la Paz. If you take a full-day tour outside the city, add an extra day.
