Location was excellent for our sites of the ZOO and Seaworld. Security was great. We felt very safe in the area. Complimentary breakfast was a little different every day and had an assortment of hot and cold items. The room was clean and roomy with a living area in the room. It was close to 2 malls with theaters and restaurants.

We booked this hotel very last minute for our first trip to San Diego. We chose it because it was close to everything we wanted to do, the price was right, and thankfully they had availability. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, especially since we weren't familiar with the area, but this hotel completely exceeded my expectations. The first thing I noticed was how CLEAN everything was. The lobby and hallways smelled so good and fresh, and the entire hotel felt very well taken care of. Check-in was also such a pleasant experience. I believe Sunny was the gentleman who helped us, and he was so kind. Instead of having us stand around waiting, they asked us to have a seat and called us when they were ready for us. Maybe they could tell we were tired after our day out, but that small gesture was really appreciated! They also asked whether we preferred the first or second floor and offered us bottled water during check-in. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly and pleasant. Our room was just as clean as the rest of the hotel. The beds were SO comfortable, the linens and covers were clean and actually smelled clean, the pillows were fluffy, the bathroom was spotless, and the towels smelled fresh. The toiletries were fully stocked with Dove products, which was another nice touch. The AC didn't get quite as cold as we personally would have liked, but the room was still comfortable and we slept perfectly. It was also surprisingly quiet. Breakfast was great! They had pancakes, breads, muffins, coffee, omelets, sausage, cereal, oatmeal, hash browns, fruit, yogurt, and more. I especially loved the pancake machine—you press the button and it makes fresh pancakes for you, and they were surprisingly really good! One of the biggest hits for our family was the HEATED POOL. Our son loved it so much that we went swimming twice—once at night and again the next morning before checking out. The location was also really convenient and close to the freeway, which made getting around San Diego easy. Since this was our first time visiting San Diego, I was a little nervous about choosing a hotel in an area we didn't know and wondered whether our last-minute, reasonably priced hotel would actually be decent. This stay went completely above my expectations. We would absolutely stay here again. I even told my fiancé that next time I want to come back to this exact hotel and stay for two nights instead of one. We loved our little San Diego trip so much that I'm already thinking this might become a yearly family tradition for us. Thank you to the staff for making our first stay in San Diego such a good one. ️

This is one of the most disappointing stays I have ever had. During check in, the woman at the front desk was immediately rude. I booked my stay with Apple Pay through their website and they charged my charged for my full stay in advance. When I arrived, I was told they don’t take Apple Pay and will need to charge my card again and they would refund me with 5-7 days. There are signs blocking the covered awning in front of the hotel, they do not allow temporary parking for check in, or loading/unloading there, as you would expect from a typical hotel. They do not disclose on the website they charge $24 to park in their “basement” garage if you have a car. They give you a poorly cut out sheet of paper to put on your dashboard. There is no elevator from the garage up into the hotel so you will need to walk up the exit ramp and around the building to enter. Don’t mind the barbed wire chain link fence blocking old musty furniture in the basement. If you’re going to charge $24 per car per night, at least use nicer paper if you don’t want to pay for brand letterhead, and print the brand logo in color. Maybe invest in a paper cutter as well. It is not the end of the world, but it screams careless, and speaks to a quality of the stay you’ll expect. Cheap, lazy, and careless of details. Our room was dingy, and well worn with scratches and dents in most of the furniture. The bathroom door didn’t lock, and the seals on the shower were yellow and gross looking. The toilet paper was not changed from the previous guest. When we told the desk about the bathroom door, they said they would send someone tomorrow afternoon. This would be after we checked out? That doesn’t solve the issue. The water in the hot tub was murky and grey. There was dried dog urine in the hallway tiles in the lobby, and our floor smelled like cigarettes. 0/10 this hotel is an insult to the brand.

Unfortunately, our stay at Holiday Inn Express Mission Valley was disappointing. We were told we could check in early at 2:00 PM. Before exploring the city, I asked if we would receive a text when the room was ready. The front desk guy said no and told us we had to call or text the hotel so they could prepare it. That made no sense because we already had a confirmed and paid reservation. We returned at 2:10 PM, but our room was still not ready. We waited until around 2:30 PM. My parents had a separate reservation, and their room was not ready either. I understand that I could have mentioned that we had two reservations, but both rooms were booked for the same day. The hotel should have known which guests were arriving. My parents had to wait until around 3:30 PM. Instead of apologizing, the front desk guy blamed me for not mentioning the second reservation. We were a group of five. Clearly, all five of us were not staying in one room with one king-size bed. My IHG Platinum Elite status was also not recognized, and we did not earn points because the front desk guy said we booked through Expedia. We have booked through a third party at another Holiday Inn before, and the front desk still offered to add our Platinum Elite information. This location made no effort to help or explain our options. On the second day, we returned from the San Diego Zoo and found that our key cards were no longer working. The same front desk guy said they were probably demagnetized because we placed them in our wallets. Again, there was no apology. The front desk guy did not provide good customer service. He responded to every concern with blame or an excuse instead of showing empathy, apologizing, or offering a solution. Shoutout to Saloni, the manager, for taking our feedback seriously and listening to our concerns. We appreciated her professionalism. Still, the overall experience was frustrating. The lack of preparation, accountability, and good customer service left us disappointed with our stay.

I enjoyed my stay here. The property and rooms are beautifully maintained. It's also nice to have a hot breakfast in the morning. However, I recommend going on the earlier side; as between 9 and 10 am, it is packed with families and kids and can feel like a bit of a feeding frenzy. It's also nice to have coffee and tea in the lobby around the clock. However, the $40 fee for parking is ridiculous. Given the fact that this hotel is it an area that's not exactly pedestrian friendly. Having your own car is necessary when staying here. It would be nice if they would either lower the cost of parking to $20 a night or make it free. I know this is a common practice these days with most hotels nowadays because they are looking to generate profit in every way possible. However, offering free parking is an opportunity to set them themselves apart from the competition; not to mention increase guest loyalty. Overall, I had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel to loved ones and colleagues.

Angelica was absolutely amazing! From the moment we checked into the Holiday Inn, she welcomed us with such warmth, kindness, and professionalism. She made us feel right at home and ensured our check-in experience was smooth and pleasant. Her customer service was truly five-star, and you can tell she genuinely cares about making guests feel comfortable and appreciated. Holiday Inn is lucky to have her! I have stayed here several times with my family, sometimes with kids, sometimes without. It has always been a pleasant stay. It was a little disappointing to come the most recent time and not have any coffee machine in the room. I was even more surprised to have to travel to the lobby to get cups for my kids to brush their teeth. I've never seen a hotel room without at least a couple glasses in the bathroom. Breakfast was fairly standard for a HIE. Many things needed refilling when we arrived at breakfast at 9am, but the staff was working hard to get them refilled and was as quick as they could be. The lobby and rooms are always very clean and in good condition.

Overall, this hotel is just okay. The lobby and breakfast area is open to the pool, and the whole setup is great for families. Not ideal for a couple looking for quiet, though. Lots of unsupervised screaming kids. Room was clean and functional, though the hot water ran out on our second day. $24 a night for parking is robbery. Especially when it's unsecured parking that shares a lot with a sketchy roach motel and a large homeless population. Just because it's typical does not make it right.
