The Peninsula Shanghai (Shanghai Bandao Jiudian), the first building built on the Bund in 60 years, brings world-renowned Peninsula standards of luxury back to Shanghai nearly three quarters of a century after its exit from the city after managing the Art Deco-inspired Astor House. With unparalleled views of the Bund, Huangpu River, and futuristic Lujiazui skyline, the Peninsula Shanghai's interior designs reference Shanghai's glory days as the "Paris of the Orient." All rooms come complete with a host of luxuries. Superior rooms feature 46" flat screen TVs, work desks with iPod connectivity, spa-like bathrooms featuring mood-lighting, TVs, phone access, double vanities and rainforest showers; while Peninsula-engineered beds ensure wonderful sleep uninterrupted by any outside noise thanks to triple-paned glass windows. Dining is a highlight in this Shanghai hotel, with both Sir Elly's Restaurant, Bar and Terrace and Yi Log Court headed by chefs experienced in delivering Michelin-starred culinary excellence. Sir Elly's rooftop location allows diners to dine in style and enjoy superb views of the Bund. A fully equipped fitness center, 25-m pool, steam rooms, saunas and the Peninsula spa ensure guests always look and feel their best. The Rose Ballroom's oversized elevator can fit a limousine, meaning that almost any production or event can be hosted. Past events include car shows by Maserati, and dramatic theater plays, all supported by the Peninsula's excellent catering and conventions staff.
