We loved our stay at Hotel Pasatiempo! It is an amazing peaceful and quiet sanctuary under trees with enough sun and so much privacy! You will love watching the monkeys, birds, iguanas and the most adorable 2 cats! The pool is amazing and we were often the only ones in it. The staff are attentive and super helpful but also leave you alone to enjoy the property until you need them. There is a security guard every night after dark and the gate gets locked, super safe! The front desk is super helpful in answering questions and giving tips. They even took our picture every night before dinner! Everything and I mean everything is within a 1-5 min walk! Beach, bars, coffee, restaurants, shops, groceries. If you are looking for the perfect beach boutique that allows you to explore all of Tamarindo, this is def your spot!

I adore this hotel and this is my second time here! They have remodeled extensively and my room was amazing! The pool and nature around the place are calming and beautiful! Watch out for Can-can the one eyed cat, Roberto the iguana and el mono!!

We stayed for 7 nights and had a wonderful time! The property was right in the middle of all the best restaurants in town - Lestanco (The Hidden Garden), Dragonfly, Rugierio for coffee and bagels, the Night Market and all of the beach restaurants to watch the sunset. The owner was there every day. The staff was excellent. Definitely saw monkeys in the trees above us. It was a definite oasis in the middle of town! Super casual and chill. We loved it!

Our experience with staff was very positive. Friendly and helpful. Pool area was nice. Close to everything. But be aware, the entire property is well worn. We stayed in Villa. Flooded in the door with a light rain, but when the heavy rains came...flooded the kitchen area. Included picture doesn't show water well, but the entire floor area you see has water in it that came in under the door (from a covered porch area). Staff cleaned up upon reporting it, but it happened both days we were there. Coupled with electrical switch in kitchen with no cover.... Almost zero hot water, and what there was, there was no water pressure. Choice was hot water in shower at a trickle, or good pressure with cold shower.

It’s a cute boutique hotel- met our needs and checked all the boxes, esp with kids in tow. I mean walking in and having howler monkeys overhead eating mangos is pretty unforgettable! Iguanas next to the pool was so cool. My kids were in heaven. Location is great in the city. Parking needs improvement with the ditch coming off the road. Staff is kind, rooms were mostly clean (cockroach) but needs upkeep on cracking walls, doors sliding and closing all the way, etc. I feel like it just needs a few weekend projects done ya know. I’d give this place a full 5 stars but my daughter cut her foot on the tile on the pool stairs- enough to she needed stitches. She couldn’t go to the beach, couldn’t snorkel in the ocean and impacted her ability to hike- super sad. I told staff and no one apologized or really did much. I asked for bandaids or a first aid kit and was told there was a pharmacy across the street. It was really frustrating and sad that she cut her foot so deep on the pool tile, or maybe a piece of glass was in the pool. The nature surrounding the hotel is beautiful, love the vibe too! The restaurant food is subpar, also a Coke is $5. We had the largest bungalow with a fenced in side yard which was clutch with kids to let them run around outside in an enclosed area. For the price point and overall experience, I’d recommend, but would give my caveat.

We travelled in January, a couple and our 15yo daughter. We arrived from our flight and a scenic drive from Liberia to the security guard checking us in after 9pm. We appreciated the free parking, proximity to restaurants and the beach, cleanliness, and the atmosphere of the pool. We used the restaurant for one breakfast and lunch, but preferred others in town once we started to explore. The bathroom was well-appointed and the beds were comfy with adequate lighting, storage space and temperature control. Our only complaints were that there weren't enough places to hang towels to dry: one short rail at the sink and one hook on the wall, not enough for our 3 towels. The on-site felines and pool were a hit with our child. We would recommend Pasatiempo to others and stay again.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and we appreciated how quickly they responded when issues came up. The best part of this property is definitely its proximity to the beach: the location is excellent. Unfortunately, the overall stay was still disappointing. While the room was technically clean, it never truly felt that way, and the property itself felt quite run down. The first room we were given smelled strongly of sewage. Although we were promptly moved to another room, it made us wonder what would have happened if there hadn’t been availability. We also experienced an ant infestation in the shower head. While it was fixed quickly and fully, there was no acknowledgment or apology for the inconvenence. The photos on the listing are outdated and don’t accurately reflect the current condition of the property. Much of the space is shaded rather than sunny, and many of the chairs are old, worn, and some slightly broken. I would only recommend staying here if there are no better options available, or if the price point is closer to the US$70/night range, as the location alone isn’t enough to justify a higher cost.

Really nice hotel just outside the centre of Tamarindo (still, only 7-8 minutes walk to the “centre” and beach). The standard room is simple, but clean and the air condition works fine. Fine breakfast and kind staff.
