The best time to visit Zadar is from May to September, when days are warm and sunny, with June through August being the hottest and driest months, ideal for beach time. May and September are milder and still pleasant, with fewer crowds. The rainiest stretch is November through January, so you'll want to avoid those months for outdoor plans.
Stay in the Old Town for the Sea Organ, Roman Forum, and easy walking to sights; it suits first-timers and history lovers. The Borik area, north of the center, is a calm residential stretch with Kolovare Beach nearby, good for families. Punta Skala, a bit further out, is a resort zone with the Falkensteiner hotels, ideal if you want a self-contained stay. The Old Town has Apartments & Rooms Mareta Exclusive and Art Hotel Kalelarga; Borik has Falkensteiner Club Funimation Borik.
Start at the Sea Organ, where the waves make music through stone steps, and stay for the Greeting to the Sun nearby at sunset. The Roman Forum and sit side by side, showing the city's ancient layers. Walk to for the old town's main square, then cool off at . Saint Anastasia's Cathedral offers the best view from its bell tower.
Full-day tours from Zadar head to Plitvice Lakes, Krka Waterfalls, Dugi Otok, and Kornati National Park with Telašćica. Plitvice is famous for its cascading lakes and boardwalks, while Krka offers waterfalls you can see up close. Dugi Otok features a shipwreck, sandy beach, and sea cave, and Kornati is a striking island archipelago with a scenic nature park. Each is a solid choice for a full day out.
Three days let you see the Sea Organ, the Greeting to the Sun, the Roman Forum, and Saint Anastasia’s Cathedral, plus a relaxed afternoon at Kolovare Beach. Add a fourth day for a full-day trip to Plitvice Lakes or Krka Waterfalls. Two days would feel rushed if you want to explore the Old Town and the Archaeological Museum at a comfortable pace.
