Our stay at Park Hyatt Zanzibar started off a little shaky but turned into one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve had. After unsuccessfully trying for a couple of days to reach the hotel to arrange airport transportation, I called again while we were waiting at baggage claim and finally spoke with Lucy. With no Tanzanian shillings and no transfer arranged, I was frustrated. When a third-party transfer wasn’t available, Lucy had me hand my phone to someone at the taxi stand, spoke with them directly, and made sure we received the correct rate. When we arrived, Lucy came out from the back and greeted us with the warmest smile, and all my anxiety immediately disappeared. She took exceptional care of us for all five days—checking on us, making sure we were comfortable, and arranging activities and an amazing tour guide tailored to what my child would enjoy. At one point, we had been out so long that she even called our guide to make sure we were okay! Having someone look after us as though we were family was incredibly heartwarming. That instinctive level of service was evident throughout the hotel. One afternoon, my child and I were rinsing off after the beach when Elias seemed to appear out of nowhere and immediately helped us. He continued to take wonderful care of us in the evenings. Peter Paul was equally attentive. My only suggestion is for more Zanzibari and Swahili selections on the regular menu. We loved the seafood BBQ—I had the octopus and my child had the kingfish—but the hotel became noticeably quieter at dinner as guests appeared to head out. Why can't I get samaki wa kupaka, Hyatt style? Or a beautiful samosa variety platter? But the fresh coconuts every morning were a huge win! The gentleman serving them always seemed to be waiting just for me, somehow knew exactly how many I wanted, and always served them cheerfully. The property and location are beautiful, but the people made our stay exceptional. What began as a stressful arrival turned into five wonderful days that we cannot wait to go back for. I highly recommend Park Hyatt Zanzibar—and I’m still hoping for that Hyatt-style samaki wa kupaka next time!

Wonderful 1 night stay. Great location. Clean and beautiful hotel. Friendly staff all around. Pool great for swimming laps in the morning. Breakfast was delicious, high quality, and beautiful setting outside. Rooms comfortable and clean. Special thanks: early check in after a long flight and also to the security guard who provided first aid to my partner when he scraped up his knee badly after a run outside.

Our stay at Park Hyatt Zanzibar was truly unforgettable. What a beautiful historic building, thoughtfully restored with an elegant blend of traditional Zanzibari charm and modern luxury, simply stunning. The room was spacious, beautifully appointed, and equipped with excellent amenities. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, making it easy to relax and unwind after a day of exploring of Stone Town. The staff were professional, attentive, and exceptionally well-trained, consistently delivering warm and personalized hospitality. Breakfast was another highlight of our stay. The semi-buffet concept combined with an à la carte menu offered a fantastic selection of dishes, all prepared to an excellent standard. The quality, presentation, and taste were superb.

Stunning property in the heart of stone town. Impressive level of service from the moment you step in through the doors. The food at the restaurants was delicious. Rooms are spacious and ocean view was stunning for sunsets. I don’t think there is anything that compares in stone town. Thank you Fauzi and team for making our stay in stone town so lovely!

We stayed here while visiting Stone Town. From the moment we arrived until we departed we had excellent service and were treated very well by the entire staff. The building was beautiful and was one of the most unique Park Hyatts that we have stayed at. The pool and beach area were small but were well maintained and did the job. The hotel staff were very accommodating and helped us to set up tours, dinners and rides while we were there. The room we stayed in was amazing white a view of the water. It was clean, well maintained and the house keeping staff made sure we had everything we needed. The staff made our time in Stone Town excellent and it really exceeded our expectations. I would definitely stay here again and you should stay here if you are visiting Stone Town and want to treat yourself to a gorgeous stay.

Mr. Bakari Mbwana and the entire staff, including the housekeeping team, are absolutely wonderful. Everyone is extremely kind, welcoming, and quick to respond to our needs. Their excellent service and warm hospitality make our stay comfortable and enjoyable every time. We truly appreciate their dedication and the care they show to our family. The Hotel is located in the heart of stone town and very clean, rooms are huge and facing the Indian Ocean the scent of the hall way was amazing and calm.

What can I say about this establishment? Despite being part of a well-known hotel chain, it is absolutely not living up to the brand’s reputation. The hotel enjoys a beautiful beachfront location, and the overall comfort is pleasant. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive points end. The food is the real problem here. And I deliberately use the word that best describes it: disgusting. The dishes are poorly prepared, tasteless, and sometimes barely edible. What makes this even more surprising is that the head chef is European. Every morning, you can see him proudly walking around the breakfast area in his chef’s uniform, yet it seems he has absolutely no control over the food coming out of this kitchen. The kitchen needs a complete overhaul. Replace the cooks, because the standard of food being served is simply unworthy of a hotel carrying the name of such a respected international chain.

My girlfriend and I had the best few days at the Park Hyatt Zanzibar. The staff went above and beyond and were friendly and professional. It was my girlfriend’s birthday and they left us a bottle of Prosecco and a cake which was a wonderful surprise. The room was immaculate, very spacious and a comfy bed. The location couldn’t be better, in the heart of stone town on the beach but at the more peaceful end of town. We loved sitting out on the veranda for breakfast watching the dhows sail by. The building is beautiful and feels elegant. One of the best stays we have had, thank you!

Frequently asked questions about Zanzibar

When is the best time to visit Zanzibar?

The best time to visit is from June to October, when the weather is drier and cooler, with highs around 28-29°C and fewer rain days. February is also pleasant, with the least rain and warm temperatures. Avoid April, which is the wettest month, and the November-December stretch, which brings heavy showers. The long rains from March to May make the island lush but less ideal for beach plans.

Which area should I stay in in Zanzibar?

For a first visit, stay in Stone Town, the historic heart with narrow streets, markets, and the Old Fort; it suits culture lovers and is walkable. For beach relaxation, the northeast coast around Matemwe and Kiwengwa offers calm waters and resorts like The Mora Zanzibar and Bluebay Beach Resort & Spa. The southeast coast, especially Paje, is great for kitesurfing and laid-back beach life, with Villa Huruma nearby. Kendwa, in the northwest, has wide beaches and sunset views, where Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa is located.

What are the must-see attractions in Zanzibar?

Start at the Old Fort in Stone Town, a 17th-century fortress with layered history. Jozani Forest is the place to see red colobus monkeys and native mangroves. Kuza Cave offers a swim in a clear underground pool. Paje Beach is a long stretch of white sand and shallow turquoise water. Cheetah's Rock is a wildlife sanctuary where you can meet rescued animals up close.

What day trips can I take from Zanzibar?

Full-day tours head to Jozani Forest for red colobus monkeys, Kuza Cave for swimming, and Paje Beach for its long white sands. Stone Town tours cover the historic old town, spice farms, and Prison Island with its giant tortoises. A Selous safari day trip is also available for wildlife viewing on the mainland.

How many days do I need in Zanzibar?

Plan 4 to 5 days: 2 days for Stone Town (Old Fort, spice tour) and 1 day for Jozani Forest and Kuza Cave, plus 1 day for Paje Beach. Add an extra day for a dolphin or Safari Blue trip. If you want to relax on the beaches, add another day.
