We just returned from a two night stay in Coimbra with CBR Boutique Hotel, and I truly loved this hotel. We stayed in room six which is on the second floor, our room overlooked the busy Largo da Portagem (the square) and the Mondrego River. We arrived a little before check in, so we were able to check our luggage with the staff and were encouraged to explore for a bit.
We were excited to check out our room, and found so many small comforts. We loved the local beers provided and cute little cookies with a welcome note. The room had a small fridge, coffee maker, built-in TV, closet, hair dryer, firm and soft pillows, and toiletries. WiFi and TV are available, which is also nice. Our view was beautiful, I highly recommend just watching the square come to life at various points through the day. We learned that in Portugal, you need to put your key in a holder by the door to use the electricity. (That was a new one for us haha). The library theme is so gorgeous, I just kept finding myself looking at the book titles around the room. The shower and toilet do have glass doors, but they do have privacy tints/designs. As a couple we had no issues with it, and it was truly gorgeous. My only feedback for travelers, were to understand that this location can/will be loud. It is right on the Main Street, so booking here means you know that! We enjoyed a festa (festival) across the bridge while we were staying, so it was pretty loud until midnight. Nothing a little white noise and jet lag on night one couldn't fix (and I am a person that needs it to be pretty quiet). The second night we roamed until that time, so it was not disruptive to us. The other thing we found was the bed was FIRM, but in comparing that to another hotel in the country, it was pretty much the same.
The common spaces are beautiful, we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast (8am-11am) both mornings as well as their Tea hour (3:00pm-midnight) both days. There are small bistro tables to enjoy off the Breakfast/Tea room which are adorable and provide a beautiful view of the square and bridge. The rooftop is a lovely place to catch sunset, and enjoy a coffee.
The staff were helpful, friendly, and so accommodating. We asked for recommendations, asked a few questions, and worked to provide them documentation to get our tax exempt for medical appointments. They were all friendly and welcoming! We are traveling back in a few months, and will likely stay at this ADULTS ONLY small boutique hotel. We truly enjoyed it and highly recommend!

If you are looking for a fantastic boutique hotel in Coimbra this is it! First of all, the decor is very unique. Each room is specially designed. But it is the service that is 5 ⭐️++ We had to leave quite suddenly due to the weather and I accidentally left my e-reader behind. The hotel staff found it and made arrangements to courier it to me at my next location of our trip. The generosity and attention to customer service was some of the best I’ve experienced from a hotel in all of our years of travelling. While we were at the hotel the service was top notch. The included breakfast was excellent. They have a roof top deck that you can enjoy with views of the Duaro River (unfortunately closed during our visit re:weather). The location is excellent with several great restaurants a short walk away. We cannot say enough about this little gem and would happily return on our next trip to the region.

Such an amazing hotel. The room was decorated beautifully and the bathroom looks like a library was real book titles. The bed was super comfortable, and the location could not have been more perfect. The staff at the front, Helena was super helpful with navigating public transit when we were confused and would absolutely stay at this hotel again and again given the opportunity.

The location is very good, near the touristic places. There are many traditional Portuguese restaurants near. The room is very clean. The view is fantastic. This hotel includes breakfast and afternoon tea (self-service). The quality of the breakfast is OK.

The staff were amazing with friendly service. The hotel location and ambiance were simply great. The rooms were very clean, neat, comfortable, with a wonderful decoration mirroring the famous Joanina library. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend this charming hotel.

What a unique hotel for book lovers! Loved the room. HOWEVER: It is service staff that go above and beyond! The day I was trying to leave to get to the train station, there was a bus strike, which affected the taxis - no taxis could be found!! I tried Uber (forget about Bolt! drivers cancel after confirming pickups!! this wastes time) and 2 canceled on me after the had confirmed - the 3rd was the charm! But as time was ticking by - 45 minutes, one of the concierge attendants volunteered to drive me! Volunteered to drive me. Wow. Thank you CBR for hiring caring and thoughtful employees!
