THIS HOTEL IS A SCAM! On March 15, 2026, we stayed at this Stay Coimbra Hotel, supposedly a 4-star hotel. The experience was terrible—we felt extremely disappointed and misled. The rooms looked like those of a one-star hotel, with dirty and deteriorated facilities. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. I complained at the reception, and they said it was "normal". Take a look at the photos, which show how disgusting a “4-star” room actually was, including the bathroom. I will be filing a complaint in "Livro de Reclamações" book and with "Turismo de Portugal".

Great location and closeness to a grocery store. The rooms seem a little bit outdated but are spacious and quiet when you close the doors to the balcony. The staff is helpful and knows English and Spanish if your Portuguese is not that good.

Do not book this hotel. It’s a scam. I came for a wedding, booked this hotel through an Odisseias pack where it classified it as a 4*- For comparison, Vila Galé (which is closeby) is also 4*. Imagine my surprise when these are the conditions of my room. Breakfast room is THE lobby itself, the variety of food is “anything canned + some pastries”, not at the standard of a 4* hotel. The elevator is also very old and overall not at the standard that it should be. The reason by which the rooms have a closed balcony is because the owner obviously wanted to give it a modern outside look, sacrificing the actual conditions of the bedrooms. The windows of the closed space barely open. Also, some of the employees were nice ofc, but genuinely not to the standard of a 4* once again. Some of the people were snarky while fulfilling basic requests that would be normal within ANY establishment that claims to be to this standard. Rooms don’t get cleaned daily. Mini fridge was disconnected and barely even worked. The bed was comfortable and overall ok. I’ll be filing an actual complaint to the portuguese authorities.

This place never felt welcoming. Staff are happy to chat to each other but not to guests. Barely polite. The room was tired and stained. Breakfast was very boring and average in quality. You have to clean up after yourself. Housekeeping never vacuumed our room or replaced the disposable cups and spoons. The location is great but I wouldn't stay here again.

The room was very filthy and there was no toilet paper and towels. Aircon was broken and mold, mold everywhere. Was really not happy and will book another hotel next time.

Not bad. Shame breakfast wasn't included. The bathroom had a rather loose tap and the reception staff weren't able to give advice about train travel in the area, otherwise it was very good for the price paid.

We were there at the beginning of September 2025 and had a room on the top floor. Good view of the University and both sunrise (daily) and moon rise (more occasional).|But this was a great disappointment, perhaps as we had just been spoilt at the Averiro Palace. It claims to be 4* hotel. It might have been once, but in reality it is a budget hotel for conference attendees at the university.|We had a big room – with enclosed balcony – which lacked furniture. For 4* you might expect a settee – we had ONE metal chair. Anther one was found for us, taken from the breakfast area. Plugs didn’t work. The neck of the table lamp was broken. The shower curtain rail fell down during our last night. Paper cups in the room which were not changed over six nights. It was clean but all very tired. The corridor carpets were worn out. Breakfast is taken in the hotel foyer and would be very acceptable in an Ibis, but not in a 4* hotel. There is a small public space on the first floor but we only discovered that when we got out of the lift on the wrong floor.|Basically it either needs to admit what it is, or it needs a total refurbishment. The price looks to be appropriate and tell you all you need to know.|Now, if we had been given the room which illustrates this site ....

I stayed four nights paying an average nightly rate of $80 including breakfast, and then $56 for one additional night sans breakfast. Credit cards accepted. Room is decent-sized with a large comfortable bed. Wifi. Aircon. Minifridge. Bathroom cramped because bidet is included. You'll be sittin' at an angle on the commode. The breakfast is acceptable, but it is NOT worth 12.50 euros. Try half that. Location is great--close to the bus station, close to restaurants, banks, grocery stores, bus stops. Staff is excellent. The elevator quit working when it got hot. Unacceptable when you have six floors. This is a true balance of good and bad. If you pay $60 or less a night, then you're getting good value for money. Don't pay more than that...
