East Beach (R.A. Apffel)
East Beach sits at the far eastern tip of Galveston Island, a wide stretch of sand where the mainland shipping channel meets the open Gulf. Unlike the busier beaches along the Seawall, this park offers a relaxed atmosphere with sweeping views of cargo ships gliding into Galveston Bay, the 700-acre East End Lagoon Nature Preserve next door, and a coastal bird sanctuary teeming with rare species. The beach is well-equipped with a waterfront pavilion, multiple sand volleyball courts (the largest collection on the Gulf Coast), showers, restrooms, and lifeguard coverage. A standout perk: East Beach is one of the few spots on the island where alcohol is permitted, and the on-site Cantina serves beachside meals and cocktails — even delivering to your spot on the sand.
