Really enjoyed our stay in this old, traditional Japanese Inn. From the moment we arrived it felt like stepping back in time and we forgot about the outside world. It was so simple yet had everything we needed. First we enjoyed the private spa all to ourselves, it was very hot but rejuvenating. Then the keiseki dinner was out of this world. The courses didn’t stop coming and everything was so well presented and so oishii. The staff made us feel very special. Came back to our futon beds made up, and relaxed for a while until bedtime. The beds were actually quite comfortable, although I wouldn’t want to sleep on futons often as getting up and down is awkward. The doonas were quite hot so sleep was a bit disrupted. But that’s ok. Breakfast was another amazing spread, i totally enjoyed most of it, just a couple of things I wasn’t too keen on. The morning went very quickly and sadly before we knew it, it was time to check out.

Outdoor temperature was around –3°C, but the ryokan felt even colder because some sections were open to the outdoors. The walkway from the rooms to the onsen is uncovered, so there’s no way to avoid the cold. I had to wear my winter jacket just to walk to the public bath.There is a private bath option, but the one assigned to me was far too hot — I couldn’t even step into the water.The public bath is a very small indoor pool, probably suitable for 2–3 people at most. There is no shower in the room, so using the public bath is unavoidable.The room itself was very cold. On top of that, I had to carry my own 25-inch luggage up three floors as there is no lift, so this place is not suitable if you can’t manage your own luggage.Dinner was disappointing — just soba and a simple soup with pork and some vegetables and mushrooms.

Excellent traditional ryokan experience. Wonderful dinners and breakfasts every day, and the private reservable onsen was exactly what we were looking for. The area does require a cab ride from downtown Matsumoto but the very attentive staff asked every day when we would like the cab to arrive, making it easy to get back into town. Also being this far out meant it was a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Great stay, would absolutely go back.

Our aim is to visit Matsumoto town for 2 days, instead of staying in the town centre, we picked this Japanese onsen ryokan with 10-12 mins drive from town centre. The ryokan is located in a very quiet place, it has a history of 60+ years, besides the public onsen (indoor), they have 4 private baths some are free (indoor), some with a small charge (outdoor but covered). You book at the reception on daily basis. We did not join the meal plan, it was perfect to enjoy both the buzzy atmosphere during the day and indulge in the relaxing ambience at night time during the two days.

A lovely ryokan where you can enjoy your time in Matsumoto. Food was good, onsens where nice (we only used privat baths). All the staff where friendly and make uss feel welcoming.

It was an amazing and unique experience - I felt a bit like in the Shogun series. Staff was extremely polite. Supper and breakfast were a great feast with a lot of interesting small dishes to try. It's definitely worth visiting if you want to experience traditional Japanese ryokan.

Absolutely loved our stay here. If you are looking for an authentic experience while in Japan I highly recommend staying here. The outdoor onsen is a must during your stay so be sure to book it. The rooms are cute and thoughtful. The staff are very friendly and above all you will eat well here. Hope to come back sometime soon!

We absolutely loved everything about this ryokan. It is located a 20-minute bus or taxi ride from Matsumoto station in a quiet neighbourhood. We took a taxi. The staff go above and beyond to help. We arrived on the day a typhoon was approaching, and our shoes were absolutely soaked—a very sad state of affairs. Before we even asked, they placed newspapers in our shoes to help them dry. The room was spacious, with lots of nice and quaint furniture, as well as very helpful amenities (face mask packs, gels and foot care products etc), and even a full-size massage chair in our room. While we were having dinner, our futon was prepared (like a ninja!). The dinner and breakfast were absolutely amazing and delicious—almost too much food, though who would ever complain about having too much food? All the ingredients were local and fresh, with very helpful explanations from the staff about each dish. Everything was very tasty. Our room came with a private onsen, which was just next to our room at the end of the corridor, and we had about 45 minutes to use it. The outdoor onsen was very spacious with a nice view. The ambience of the hotel also made the ryokan special, with lots of beautiful furniture and portraits everywhere. I stopped so many times in the corridor to take photos. I couldn’t recommend this ryokan enough to anyone. The staff were incredible! There’s nothing to complain about—if anything, they are too perfect. Thanks for making our stay so special. We loved our stay and would love to come back.
