AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Flag Bend Panorama (Lakorja Panoramike e Flamurit) is a modern steel viewing platform perched on the rim of Albania's Osum Canyon near the village of Çerenisht in Skrapar. Built in 2017 by the Albanian-American Foundation for Development and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, the cantilevered balcony offers a dramatic 180-degree outlook into one of Europe's deepest and most spectacular river gorges.↗↗↗
The Google Maps entry currently lists the landmark as permanently closed. Visitors should check local conditions before making a dedicated trip, though the surrounding canyon and its other viewpoints along road SH72 remain freely accessible.↗
What It Is and Why It Matters
The Osum Canyon stretches roughly 26 kilometers south of the town of Çorovodë in Skrapar district, with limestone walls plunging up to 80 meters deep in places. For decades the best way to experience it was to raft the river or scramble along precarious cliff edges. In June 2017, that changed: the Albanian-American Foundation for Development (AADF) and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) jointly invested approximately €132,000 to build two modern panoramic platforms on the canyon's rim—Lakorja e Flamurit (the Flag Bend) and Vrima e Nuses (the Bride's Hole). Both were designed by Albanian firm PRG*BR Architecture and constructed by local builder Salillari sh.p.k., employing around 100 workers.
